Was the use of antibiotic necessary? a clinical case report double focal compression bandaging

According to the outcomes of a clinical experience in more of two hundred patients, pressure focused on the wound bed prevents infection. We did a daily follow-up of the clinical course of the wounds, during the first few weeks, to detect any signs or symptoms of infection, in which case we would prescribe antibiotics, but this did not happen. We asked for cell cultures of the wound’s exudate, finding bacterial contamination, but no infection. The explanation lies in the antibacterial effect of monocytes.

Dental veneers: from theory to practice

The current state of our knowledge allows us today to propose minimally invasive treatments that meet the major requirements of modern dentistry, thanks to new approaches and new materials. Minimally invasive restorations, including veneers, whose indications are still poorly understood, require good control on the part of the practitioner, a difficult preparation and a rigorous bonding.

Focused pressure over the surgical wound improves the aesthetic outcome.

The pressure focused on a wound leads to its healing, by the effect of the stimulation of arteriogenesis and angiogenesis in the affected area, with a surprising aesthetic outcome. The antibacterial and debriding properties of compression make it a fundamental therapeutic tool in wound management. I checked this effect, treating vascular leg ulcers by means of compression therapy, using a modality which I named “double focal compression bandaging”. The pressure is achieved using a pad-gauzes putted over the wound and fixing it to the skin with adhesive -tape.

Interest of the laser in dental practice

Gingivectomy is the surgical removal of gum tissue. This procedure is used to treat gum disease and to eliminate deep pockets resulting from the detachment of gums from the teeth, or for esthetic reasons. Currently, gingivectomy is the most common procedure performed with dental lasers. All laser wavelengths can be used to precisely incise the gum for restorative, cosmetic and periodontal purposes. Rapid healing and reduced pain are frequently observed after gingivectomy and patients do not require periodontal dressings or sutures.
