Russell’s periodontal index: to score or not to score

It is a composite index, which grades all pockets. Some consider it no longer valid. It was the first index for periodontal disease with a weighted categorial system. The diagnostic criteria for the periodontal index developed by Russell are based on gingival inflammation & loss of periodontal attachment. This index has been used mainly for epidemiological & purposes, & a variety of different populations in developing countries have been examined using this index. It measures both reversible & irreversible aspects of periodontal disease.

Aesthetic and functional rehabilitation by interim immediate partial prosthesis: case of aggressive periodontitis

Anterior teeth have a crucial role in functional, psychological andaesthetic aspects, by restoring smile and self-esteem. However, the extraction of these anterior teeth can be imposed by terminal bone lysis, caused by aggressive periodontitis. In this case, the prosthetic rehabilitation of the anterior partially edentulous patient, becomes an imperative. The temporary partial prosthesis is an interesting therapeutic option in restoring these patient’s function, aesthetic and comfort.

Extra-neurological complications of spontaneous arachnoid hemorrhage about 30 cases

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is responsible of many neurological complications. However, other extra-neurological complications may occur involving the outcome of patients and worsening their prognosis. We report in this retrospective study 30 cases of subarachnoid hemorrhage that were hospitalized over a period of 3 years in our intensive care department A1 of Hassan II University Hospital, Fez, Morocco.

Digital workflow in implantology: the steps of cadcam planification

Thanks to the evolution of radiological acquisition techniques, the use of CT and CBCT by practitioners allowed visualization of bone structures and anatomical obstacles in three dimensions and after implant simulation in the planification software we can place the implant in the ideal position from a prosthetic and surgical point of view. The digital evolution then led us to the manufacture of surgical guides thus eliminating operator-dependent errors.

A comparative study to assess the malnutrition among adult women by using mid upper arm circumference (muac) versus body mass index (bmi) at Thirubhuvanai Palayam, Puducherry

Malnutrition, defined as ill health caused by deficiencies of calories, protein, vitamins, and minerals interacting with infections and other poor health and social conditions, saps the strength and well-being of millions of women and adolescent girls around the world. though malnutrition actually also relates to problems of nutritional excess.

The effectiveness of care bundle approach on the prevention of catheter associated urinary tract infection (cauti) among the patient with indwelling catheter in selected hospitals at Puducherry.

Objective: The main purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Care Bundle Approach on prevention of CAUTI among experimental group, to compare the effectiveness of Care Bundle Approach on CAUTI among experimental and control group, to associate the selected demographic and clinical variables with CAUTI among the patients on experimental and control group. Material and methods: A quasi experimental post test only control group design was adopted for the study.

Managing gag reflex during removable complete denture treatment: a case report

The gag reflex is an innate reflex to protect the upper respiratory and digestive tracts from any event that could cause their obstruction. However, in some patients, this reflex may be unpredictable and exaggerated. the realization of prosthetic care can then become painful for the patient, and delicate for the practitioner. The gag reflex not only interferes with the quality of the therapeutic act but can also prevent the patient from wearing a dental appliance in which he or she had placed hopes.

A study to evaluate the effectiveness of computer-based cognitive remediation program for behavioural problems in children with intellectual disability in selected schools, puducherry

Background: Intellectual disability (ID) refers to deficit of cognitive abilities such as reasoning, problem solving, planning, abstract thinking, judging, academic learning and learning by experience. Intellectual disability (ID) once called mental retardation, is characterized by below-average intelligence or mental ability and a lack of skills necessary for day-to-day living. People with intellectual disabilities can and do learn new skills, but they learn them more slowly.

A study to assess the modified basis-r 24 scale as a predictors of transition to psychosis in at risk mental state patients admitted in SMVMCH at Puducherry

Background of the study: At-risk mental state (ARMS) is a condition that the people have risk to develop psychosis and schizophrenia and the conditions of ARMS includes anxiety disorder, phobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, alcoholic dependent syndrome (ADS), substance abuse, drug abuse, affective/mood disorder. The transition to psychosis is the period of change from healthy mental state to abnormal conditions of the mind that results in difficulty to determine the reality perceptions and judgment.

Pre-implant study: interest of the digital prosthetic project

The prosthetic project in implantology is a diagnostic process that prefigures the aesthetic, functional and occlusal parameters in a correct static and dynamic context (occlusion plane, vertical occlusion dimension, occlusal curves, lip support...). For simple prosthetic projects (one or two missing teeth), treatment planning is relatively easy. For complex projects, a more detailed analysis is necessary to anticipate and predict on models and/or in the mouth, the position of future prosthetic, by using various "models" or "guides".
