Actions to reduce the impact of sepsis by central venous catheterism

Currently there is a growth in the use of extravascular catheter as a procedure worldwide, mainly due to the expansion of work in critical care. Cuba does not escape to such a scale???? In Cuba an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study of the procedure in use has been conducted at the Intensive Care Unit of the Dr. Mario Muñoz Monroy University Hospital in Colón, Matanzas. The investigation, which aimed to identify factors that could reduce the incidence of sepsis secondary during this procedure.

Frontoethmoid mucocele as a cause of proptosis

Paranasal sinus mucoceles can present with a multitude of different symptoms including ophthalmic disturbances.We describe a patient with frontal sinus mucoceles presenting with non-axial proptosis and give details of their presentation, investigations and treatment. The treatment of mucoceles is reviewed. It is stressed that a team approach involving the Ophthalmologist, Otolaryngologist and Radiologist is essential for accurate diagnosis and management.

Seroprevalence of anti-cardiolipin antibodies in sudanese patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Background:Antiphospholipid antibodies are a heterogeneous circulating immunoglobulins family of approximately twenty auto antibodies directed against phospholipids binding plasma proteins. Anticardiolipin (ACL) is the most commonly investigated APL in relation with several diseases as Rheumatoid arthritis, systemic thrombosis, cerebral ischemia, deep vein thrombosis. Anti-cardiolipin antibodies can be classified in two ways; As IgM, IgG or IgA and As ß2-glycoprotein dependent or independent.

Oncocytoma of the accessory parotid gland: a very rare case report

Oncocytomas are a group of rare neoplasms occurring in the parotid gland and account for less than 1% of all salivary gland tumors. Oncocytoma is a benign tumor composed of oncocytes with many hyperplastic mitochondria, usually presenting a solitary nodule. We reported a rare case of a slow-growing parotid oncocytoma in a 53years old woman who presented with a palpable mass in the left cheek region for about 1years.

Smile attractiveness: the impact of the esthetic criteria

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of four esthetic criteria on smile attractiveness: smile arc - median maxillary diastema- the longitudinal axis of both central incisors - Facial parameter. Materials and Methods: Using a visual analog scale, Participants judged online the smile attractiveness of 14 smiles modified according to the parameters chosen. Results: The results showed that there is a significant difference in the perception of smile between the professional and the non professional group.

There are many instances of sexual exploitation of young people by trusted members of the church. Many people would want for those occurrences to be secretly addressed because of the embarrassment it may have on the church fraternity.

A Gram-positive, cocci, thermoduric, haloalkalotolerant, and lipolytic bacterium designated strainWRS3, was isolated from salty soda soil sample collected from Wadi El-Ryan, Egypt. It is extremetolerant , pH10 and NaCl 22%.

Demystifying the bonding to zirconia: a systematic review of the literature

Purpose: Adhesion to zirconia is still a challenge.There is no consensus concerning the most effective adhesion protocol for zirconia used in dentistry.This is important particularly for restorations where mechanical retention is deficient. The aim of this systematic review was to analyse the adhesion potential of resin cements to zirconia and to highlight the best surface conditioning method affecting the bond strength results to this substrate.
