A clinical trial of abhadi vati in sandhigatavata w.s.r. to osteoarthritis

Background: Sandhigatavata vis-à-vis osteoarthritis is multi-factorial, non-inflammatory degenerative joint disorder. The incidence of osteoarthritis in India is as high as 12%. It is estimated approximately 4 out of 100 people are affected by it. It is observed in the 3rd- 4th decade of life and is extremely common by age of 70 years. Almost all persons by age of 40 years have some pathological change in the weight bearing joint. 20% females and 16% males have symptomatic osteoarthritis. South Asian countries like India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri-lanka are having higher incidence.

Clinical study of hollow viscus and solid organ injury in blunt abdominal trauma and its management

Abdominal injury as a result of both blunt and penetrating trauma has an appreciable mortality rate from haemorrhage and sepsis. This study represents the experience with blunt trauma to the abdomen of patients from a tertiary care centre. The study was undertaken to know the demographic details, mode of injury, management and outcome of blunt trauma abdomen (BTA). All the blunt trauma abdomen cases admitted in RIMS Ranchi during periodof July 2014 to September 2016. There were 55 consecutive cases of blunt trauma abdomen.

Cbct a novel imaging technique in dentistry – a recent update

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has gained its importance in the last few years and has been widely employed in dentomaxillofacial imaging. This technique provides relatively high isotropic spatial resolution of osseous structures with a reduced radiation dose compared with conventional CT scans. CBCT offers numerous advantages compared to traditional 2D radiography not just in terms of avoiding superimposition but also with its application in multiplanar reformation and face scan marking horizons in real time imaging.

Evaluation of cinnamon mouthwash on candida albicans in type ii diabetics with chronic periodontitis: a pilot study

Background and objectives: The aim of the study is to assess the candidial carriage in type II diabetes patients with chronic periodontitis according to the duration of diabetes, gender and age also to evaluate the effect of cinnamon mouthwash on candida albicans in type II diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis.Exfoliative cytology was used as a screening tool for detecting candida albicans. Material and methods: 30 patients were divided into 2 groups that is diabetic type II patients with chronic periodontitis (test) and non-diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis(control).

Primary adult ewing sarcoma of the kidney: a rare entity

Ewing sarcoma or primitive neuroectodermal tumor (ES/PNET) is an aggressive type of sarcoma that is rarely observed in the kidney. The diagnosis of primary renal EWS can be difficult; it mostly presents with non specific symptoms. The final diagnosis is based on combination of immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). We review here in a case of Ewing Sarcoma of the kidney, and we review briefly the existing literature data.

Endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene t-786c polymorphism among polycythaemia vera patients in khartoum, 2016

Background: A single nucleotide polymorphism (T > C) rs2070744 due to transition of a thymine to a cytosine at T-786C in the promoter region of eNOS was found to reduce the rate of mRNA transcription by 50%, resulting in decreased serum NO levels which can inhibit apoptosis or stimulate tumor proliferation, angiogenesis and metastasis. Objective: To evaluate the association between Nitric Oxide Synthase gene T-786C polymorphism and Polycythemia Vera patients in Sudan. Material and Methods: A total of 40 patients with Polycythemia Vera and 50 control subjects were enrolled this study.

Endo-perio interrelationship- an overview

The human periodontium and dental pulp cavity are closely connected by their proximity and by the presence of apical and lateral radicular foramina, which permit the passage of pathogens between these two distinct anatomical areas. The interrelationship of these structures influences each other during health, function and disease. Although there are many factors that contribute to the development and progression of endodontic and periodontal diseases, the primary cause of both diseases is the presence of bacterial infections with complex microbial flora.

Patterns of behaviour: decision- making processes within households on the use of the insecticide treated bed nets

Introduction: Insecticide treated bed nets are the most reliable and cost effective tool to use in the prevention of malaria. This study explored the usage patterns and decision making processes; on the consistent use of the insecticide treated bed net. Methodology: A mixed method study that used the multi stage sampling technique in the selection of study districts and households. The target population was residents of the upper east region of Ghana.

Evaluation of hypoglycemic effect of aloe vera on allaxon induced diabetic rats

Aloe vera is used worldwide for several medical purposes as alternative medicine The present study, is an attempt to evaluate the hypoglycemic effects of aqueous leaf extract of Aloe vera Alloxon injection(65mg /kg body weight) induced hyperglycemia, Oral administration of aqueous extract of Aloe vera at a dose of 0.5ml /100gm body weight for a prolonged period (30days) significantly reduced blood sugar levels and rise in liver glycogen content in allaxon induced diabetic rats compared with control group.
